Seeing more than nails recently......

"When the only tool you have is a hammer you tend to see every problem as a nail."

Abraham Maslow is the genius behind the quote above. I was introduced to Maslow through one of my dearest friends after mentioning Ivan Pavlov in a recent email. It just so happens she had studied some psychology in the past few years and I have been engulfing myself with the ramblings of this Brooklyn native of Jewish descent via Russia. Still with me? Anyway to make what was originally a short story-turned long story yadda yadda yadda....... I have not been very adventurous lately and everything I have done has involved work basically. I took the day off.....well I left work at 5 am this morning in order to come home and sleep a bit extra before getting up at noon and heading to a nearby town to meet a friend I have been chatting with for a few months from the Dallas area. We met in Greenville and I must say she is every bit as pretty in person as in her pictures and she looked gorgeous in the pics. Anyway after saying our hellos and a few hugs we were off in search of antiques. Actually I usually frustrate people who go to antique stores with me as I seldom buy anything haha. That held true today as well. Julie is into SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) which is an international organization who is dedicated to researching and reliving middle ages and more specifically roughly the 1500s or 16th century. I do hope to join her and her friends some day soon for some of these "activities". Julie btw is a newly appointed Barroness in her area organization so in effect I was in the presence of a higher ranking person for the afternoon. As a part of her "duties" she sometimes is expected to bestow "gifts" to her subjects and lets just say she found some fitting gifts in the quaint farming village of Greenville suitable for gifting. We then left and had a less than medieval dinner at Applebees (but very tasty nonetheless) . She had to get back to her apartment kinda early though to feed her dog Tristan and to let him out to do what dogs do so our day was cut a bit shorter than both of us would have liked but we both agreed to find some time in the near future to get together soon so I am looking forward to that. Oh and since everyone likes pics here is Julie in one of her handmade "costumes". And thanks Julie for a great afternoon!

slowly updating

Slowly getting things back to normal if there is such a thing with me now days. I had a very nice visit with a dear friend whom I have not seen in many years on Thursday evening. She was in from Colorado visiting her folks and we got together and have a wonderful dinner at Tamolly’s Mexican Food Restaurant (also known as my favorite dining experience in the big ol’ city of Paris). I then proceeded to show her my lovely mansion (also known as a metal shop with a 1 bedroom, 1 bath “apartment” on one end and a short drive through some of the nearby countryside and loads of reminiscing. She even invited me up to Colorado to go snow skiing this winter although not sure how her husband will react to this news if I do decide to accept the offer. In case you are wondering , yes I am seriously considering going because that’s been on my list of things to try for a while now haha.

Not a lot else going on around here……working pretty much every day now and trying to plan a vacation soon. I had told my friend Vicki I would try to make it down Georgia way this summer so maybe headed down there. A bonus on that trip would be the possibility of meeting a longtime online friend who is stationed in GA with the Army, before she heads off to Iraq this fall. This would be her second tour and they are telling them to expect 12-15 months or so. Please take time each week to pray for our soldiers who are a world away from their loved ones. They do such a valuable and very dangerous job that most of us take for granted.

My daughter is in Florida for a week long trip with the school and as soon as she gets back she is off to…..Florida again for another week or two……she has such a rough life….being 17 and getting to spend half a month in Florida…..poor child haha.
